Creative Ability Development Teacher Training BIIMA
(July 16-30, 2024)
With Founder Alice Kay Kanack
BIIMA is proud to share the unique opportunity to become certified in the Creative Ability Development Method for the first time this summer. The Creative Ability Development Movement has long been underway in the United States and Canada but has rarely visited Europe. It is the sincere desire of the founder, Alice Kanack, that the principles of CAD find their way to the European continent. It is this desire that has led her to accept this invitation to join the tremendous faculty at the BIIMA Academy this summer to offer the CAD Teacher Training in tandem with the wonderful Improvisation, Creativity & Composition Retreat offered by Margaret Maria. As a trained and experienced CAD teacher, Margaret Maria is in a unique position to understand and support the creative development of the teacher trainees as they become CAD teachers themselves.
”Imagine a place where no one tells you what to do, everyone listens when you speak, and everyone applauds your ideas. This is the world of creative ability development!
Creative Ability Development (CAD) is a method that uses improvisation as a tool to develop the creative part of the brain. It’s pedagogical purpose is to teach unique self expression or musicality. It’s philosophical purpose is to develop the ethical character of artistry in every student, which is the search for, and expression of, truth and beauty. CAD teaches students how to create together and share ideas, and inspires in each student a non competitive internal drive for excellence. The method is based on research, which explains how the process of creativity works in the brain to solve problems. Using music as a language and improvisation as a tool, the method of CAD replicates this creative process through group games and solo exercises. Through disciplined practice of the CAD method, all students can develop their innate creative ability to a very high level.
Instruction
Teachers will have hands-on opportunities to learn the multiple levels of teaching CAD, from early childhood through the artist level. They will learn CAD philosophy, pedagogy, and how to facilitate a creative classroom or private lesson. There will be many opportunities for playing and practice teaching as well as time for discussion and questions. Topics covered will include:
• CAD Core concepts: Definitions, Theory, Pedagogy, Purpose • History: Eureka Moment, Research, Books and Recordings • Brain Science: IQ vs CQ, Medial Prefrontal Cortex, Outliers, Myelin • Evolution of Ideas: 80/20 Syndrome, Social Impact, Creative beginnings
