Most days will begin with an Italian class, taught by a local Italian teacher, guiding the students on basic Italian and uncovering the hot spots in the town of Breno.

Next, the students will have the opportunity to join a group physical warmup, led by Maghan McPhee. It will be a chance to come together and feel energized by one another, as well as to prepare for the day of intense mental and musical work.

Following time for personal warmup, Lara will work with the flutists in a masterclass setting, accompanied by a member of BIIMA’s piano faculty. There will be performance masterclasses, as well as group classes on goal-setting, mental skills development, deliberate practice, freelancing, and any career topics in which participants express interest.

After a scrumptious home-made lunch made by the sisters of the convent, the students will break up into rehearsal rooms to practice and receive daily lessons. Solo repertoire will be worked out two months prior in May, when Lara Deutsch will meet with each student over Zoom to discuss repertoire and their individual goals for their time at BIIMA.

At the 7th bell, we all reconvene for a home-made Italian dinner, followed by a night out for vino or gelato!

The students’ hard work will be showcased at a gala concert at the end of the program. There will also be two days off where planned excursions will be offered.
